As you drive toward the northernmost point of the island on Hwy. 270, look for the "Upolu Airport" sign that points the way to the region's small and quiet airport. Why did we lead you out to windy and desolate Upolu Point? It's because Upolu is the gateway to the sacred birthplace of King Kamehameha I. Unless you have 4-wheel drive, park your vehicle by the tiny airport and plan on a mile-plus hike via the unpaved jeep trail heading left.
