There is a three-mile walk to stunning Kapoloa Falls in Polulu Valley that you can only take via a guided tour with the adventure company Hawaii Forest & Trail. For those who like to be on their own, hike the switchback trail down into lush Polulu Valley to experience Mother Nature at her finest on The Big Island. Remember, legend says that this is the valley where lava rocks were transferred via a human chain for over twenty miles to Kawaihae in order to build Pu'ukohola Heiau in 1790-91 and fulfill the prophecy of King Kamehameha the Great.
