The drive winds down to the bottom where lava actually flowed across the road in 2003. Look for picturesque Holei Sea Arch and, depending on current conditions, possible lava flows at the end of Chain of Craters Road. |

Kilauea Volcano has erupted lava along the East Rift Zone almost continuously since January 1983. The dynamic lava flows "have added over 568 acres of new land to the southern shore of Kilauea and covered 8.7 miles of highway with lava as deep as 115 feet." |
