Established circa 1875 by Englishman Henry Nicholas Greenwell, the H.N. Greenwell Store "is the oldest surviving store in Kona and one of the oldest buildings in the district." On the National Register of Historic Places, costumed interpreters at the store today interact with visitors to convey the hardships and true stories of ranch and farm life in the 1890s. Stocked with authentic period merchandise and antiques, the store is a hit with history buffs and photographers alike. Locals in the know also line up early to buy the delicious Portuguese Sweet Bread baked in the museum's wood-fired Portuguese Bread Oven.
