Being that this is Hawaii after all, we weren't completely surprised to hear that to the immediate right of the church is Ku'emanu Heiau, a sacred place of worship dedicated to the Hawaiian chiefs of yesteryear who rode the ocean's fierce waves. Today, surfers young and old still visit the site to pay their respects and to "pray for surf."
