The Peninsula Hong Kong (first opened in 1928) is the city's only historical five-star luxury hotel and is located a short distance away from the Star Ferry Pier on Salisbury Road. Besides tales of wealth and glamour, The Peninsula is also where British officials formally surrendered to the Japanese on December 25, 1941 after the bloody seventeen days of the Battle of Hong Kong. Visitors still flock to the elegant hotel today for its sense of style and a taste of the good life. Be advised that the popular Afternoon Tea (high tea) at The Peninsula is considered a must-do for many tourists while in Hong Kong. If you don't enjoy long lines, head up to the hotel bar and restaurant named Felix instead for a sophisticated cocktail in a Philippe Starck designed environment.
