Kowloon Walled City was known the world over for its lawlessness, criminal activities, brothels, illegal doctors and dentists, unregulated small businesses and harsh living conditions. The City was officially closed in July 1992 and completely demolished after the Hong Kong Government paid compensation to businesses and over 33,000 residents to peacefully relocate. |

Today, a model of the City of Darkness (as titled in a book by Greg Girard and Ian Lambot) is on display at the quiet park. Opened to the public on December 22, 1995, the design of Kowloon Walled City Park is influenced by the Qing Dynasty's Jiangnan garden style. What an incredibly beautiful area to sit in and contemplate the changing nature of modern Hong Kong. |
