The National Tropical Botanical Gardens which runs Limahuli continues a plan of action to "clear the land of introduced species that were choking native plants and planting more native plants to help speed the re-growth." |

They have already done admirably with reintroducing the oddly shaped plant called the alula. In 1997, Limahuli Garden was named the best natural botanical garden in the U.S. by the American Horticulture Society. |
