Near mile marker 10 is the Waimea Canyon Lookout, a wonderful vantage point into the famous 3,400 feet deep gorge that Mark Twain called the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific."  Ten miles long and one mile wide,... Waimea Canyon is truly one of Hawaii's natural wonders.  The colorful strata tell a marvelous tale of the history of time, and there are many other lookouts along the road to view the canyon from.
