The active town was first founded by businessman Henry Pierce and banker Charles Reed Bishop in the mid-nineteenth century to service the growing agricultural area of southern Kauai.
Today, besides the local government offices and art deco inspired storefronts, look for the historic two-story Kauai Museum on Rice Street.
