Picturesque Wailua Beach, located right at the mouth of the Wailua River, is easily accessible at the corner of Kuamo'o Road. The Wailua River is the only river that is navigable in all of Hawaii and as one of Kauai's seven major rivers, Wailua receives its flow from majestic Mount Wai'ale'ale (overflowing water), the watershed of the island. |

Averaging more than 460 inches of rain per year, Wai'ale'ale (with an elevation of over 5,200 ft) is considered one of the wettest sites on the planet. Hawaiian priests once devotedly walked along a path from the mouth of the river to a place of worship at the top of Waialeale to honor Kane, their god of creation. |
