In Wailua, preserved remnants of historical sites continue to remind visitors of the cultural and spiritual significance of this ancient royal capital.  To reach the Wailua Complex of Heiau at the Wailua River State Park, from Highway 56, cross the bridge above the Wailua River and turn left on to Kuamo'o Road (Route 580). As the road climbs, look for signs pointing to the various sites including Kalaeokamanu Heiau, Poli'ahu Heiau, and the royal birthing stones of Holoholoku (which is further west on the Wailua River).
