During one of our trips to the island, we stayed in Puko'o and met some wonderful people who shared with us the idea behind Molokai's traditional way of subsistence living. On an island admittedly hard-hit by unemployment, residents are smart, tough and strong-minded. |

As Senator J. Kalani English said in an interview published in The Maui News, residents "may supplement the group's diet with traditional fishing, hunting, gardening, gathering and sharing. It's subsistence living. It's the Molokai way." Animals that are hunted for food on Molokai include feral pigs, goats, sheep, Axis Deer and game birds. |
