Find your way back up now to Hwy 460 and drive the short distance to the old plantation town of Maunaloa. In 1897, by purchasing and leasing the surrounding land once owned by King Kamehameha V, a group of businessmen effectively created Molokai Ranch - the largest landowner on the island. |

The Ranch, currently controlled by an off-island company, owns approximately 35 percent of Molokai's land (over 60,000 acres) and until 2008, was also the island's largest employer. |
