Just a little further down the road is the village of Keanae, which sits picturesquely on a field of black lava.  A tsunami siren at the scenic overlook serves as a reminder of the deadly April 1, 1946 tidal wave… that struck villages all along the coast from Spreckelsville to Hana.  Only the church remained standing on Ke'anae after the tsunami pounded the peninsula on that terrifying April Fool's Day.
