Kane'aki Heiau (temple), Makaha Resort and Golf Club, and one mile long Makaha Beach Park are all located in the last town on Farrington Highway. Buffalo's Big Board Surfing Classic, started by local surfer Buffalo Keaulana in 1977, brings the crowds to Makaha every February for the world-famous competition. Known as the birthplace of big wave surfing, Greg Noll placed an exclamation point at Makaha Beach in 1969 when he rode what was considered to be the biggest wave ever ridden up to that time.
