During the Boat Days of yesteryear, musicians and hula dancers would greet passengers from incoming or departing Matson ocean liners right at the pier.  The festive celebration included fragrant leis for the enchanted visitors along with bursts of colorful streamers and confetti. Tradition has it that if you toss your lei overboard as your ship departs from Honolulu Harbor, and the lei floats back toward shore, you were destined to return again to the magical islands of Hawaii.  The celebrations live on today on a smaller scale as sunset dinner cruises depart nightly from the harbor.
