In the afternoon, the Moana's Beach Bar and Banyan Veranda are fantastic spots for a refreshing cocktail.  Look for the 100-year-old banyan tree in the courtyard where Harry Owens' and Webley Edwards' world-famous radio show "Hawaii Calls" first began broadcasting in 1935.  The composer and bandleader Harry Owens was well known for writing "Sweet Leilani"... in honor of his newborn daughter in 1934 and Bing Crosby popularized the Oscar winning song in the film "Waikiki Wedding".  As musical director of "Hawaii Calls", Owens went on to become a great advocate for the Hawaiian Islands.  The success of "Hawaii Calls" made household names of talented performers such as Hilo Hattie and Genoa Keawe across the mainland.
