In 1917, hotel manager Clifford Kimball purchased a simple beachfront hotel called the Hau Tree and established the elegant and stylish resort named Halekulani, or "House Befitting Heaven." |

As legend goes, the Lewers family who once had their beachfront house here allowed local Hawaiians to store their canoes on site. The appreciative watermen conferred the enchanting name to the beautiful residence. |
