Start your day at Singapore’s first skyscraper - the beautiful Cathay Building, located at 2 Handy Road (right off of the eastern end of Orchard Road). Built in 1939 by the multi-talented Dato Loke Wan Tho (founder of the Cathay Organisation), the building was famous for its movie theatre and original art-deco façade that is now a preserved national monument. Look for the nostalgic Cathay Gallery on the second floor to learn about the Loke family’s many business interests and about the history of film production in Singapore and Malaysia.
