Back in the 1880s, several British forts on Sentosa protected the harbor and the island was spookily called Pulau Blakang Mati (island behind which lies death). Given the new name Sentosa (peace and tranquility) in 1972, the island has been transformed over the years into a world-renowned resort destination. The popular integrated resort is easy to get to as visitors have easy accessibility including riding the cable car in from Mt. Faber or the HarbourFront Centre, taking the Sentosa Express light-rail train from VivoCity, or even leisurely walking across the Sentosa Boardwalk.
