The once small but strong Armenian community in Singapore helped to fund the building of the understated Armenian Church (also known as the Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator) in 1835. Located at 60 Hill Street, the Armenian Church is the oldest Christian church on the island and was designed by the famous architect George D. Coleman. Look for the gravesite of Agnes Joaquim (Ashkhen Hovakimian) in the peaceful cemetery outside of the church.  Agnes is famous for breeding Singapore’s beautiful national flower - the Vanda Miss Joaquim that is named after her.
