As your exploration of town continues, drive up to the Hilo Public Library at 300 Wai'anuenue Avenue to learn a bit more about Hawaiian history. In front of the library lies a large 5,000-pound lava rock called the Naha Stone, and standing next to it is a smaller rock called the Pinao Stone that once guarded a religious temple. |

Hawaiian legend said that the warrior who moved the giant Naha Stone would ultimately become the ruler of a united island kingdom. It was in Hilo that Kamehameha, as a young teenager, summoned all of his strength and incredibly turned the Naha Stone over on its side. The prophecy of his great power thus continued towards fulfillment. |
