Since a flow first began at a vent called Pu'u O'o in January 1983, lava has continued to stream daily from various vents on the volcano to create additional land and life on the Big Island of Hawaii. It has been measured that "the current eruption rate of Kilauea volcano is 250,000 - 650,000 cubic yards per day."
