Visitors have found their way to Kilauea for well over a century now. Early travelers often dipped postcards into the hot lava and singed the edges as a souvenir of their volcano visit. In 1874, Isabella Bird - the famed traveler and author of "Six Months in the Sandwich Islands" visited Kilauea and wrote in spectacular detail: |
