Across from Mokuaikaua Church on Alii Drive is Hulihe'e Palace, a two-story museum listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. Built by Governor John Adams Kuakini in 1838, the elegant palace (one of only three royal palaces in America) served as the governor's residence until his death in 1844. |

Through the years, Hulihee Palace has been owned by members of Hawaii's royalty, including Princess Ruth Ke'elikolani and King David Kalakaua. |
