There's a casual phrase that Hong Kong people like to respond with when they're asked "What's going on?" or "What are you up to?" and that saying in the Cantonese dialect is pronounced "Wun sik." Locally, the response carries the meaning of "making a living" but the words also literally translate to "finding something to eat" or "looking for food." Leave it to Hong Kongers to be economical with words and their philosophical meanings. Following this mindset, a person labors simply because one has to make a living or else he or she will go hungry.
