It has been noted that "a maximum of 50 tons of sugar per year were produced from 30 acres of cane." In 1972 a caring group of individuals began the process of restoring the dilapidated mill and after 16 years of effort, the restored mill was dedicated on March 26, 1988. The R.W. Meyer Sugar Mill is a part of the Historic American Engineering Record and is also on the National Register of Historic Places. Be sure to visit the Moloka'i Museum & Cultural Center on the same site for educational displays and exhibitions.
