The royal gravesite of King William Charles Lunalilo (1835-1874) stands on the grounds of Kawaiahao, so that even in death the King could remain close to his beloved citizens.
During his time, Lunalilo was known as "the people's prince", and he is remembered for his attempts to make government more democratic for the people of Hawaii.
