So here we are, standing above the blue Pacific, encouraged by the emotional surroundings of Punchbowl Crater to think deeply about the human condition.  It is estimated that well over 20 million (20,000,000) people died as a direct result of World War I. An estimated 60-70 million (60,000,000 - 70,000,000) people lost their lives as a direct result of the conflicts of World War II.  Overall, it is estimated that over 160 million (160,000,000) people died due to the destructive wars of the twentieth century.  Those numbers are shocking to say the least.
