Next to San Souci Beach is the Waikiki Natatorium War Memorial, opened in 1927 to "honor 101 who died and the nearly 10,000 others who served in World War I from Hawaii."  The arena's 100-meter pool was a hit with famous swimmers including Duke Kahanamoku, Esther Williams, and Johnny Weismuller. On both the National and State Registers of Historic Places, the facility is currently unused and in need of restoration.
