Thian Hock Keng Temple (Temple of Heavenly Happiness) is a national monument built between 1839 - 1842 and dedicated to Ma Zu (sometimes called Ma Cho Po), the Goddess of the Sea. Located at 158 Telok Ayer St., Thian Hock Keng is considered one of Singapore’s oldest and most important Hokkien temples. |

This prayer house was where Chinese sailors and immigrants would first come to give thanks to the Goddess for a safe journey across the ocean. The beautiful and impressive original temple structure (recently restored in 2000) was built entirely without nails in a traditional southern Chinese architectural style. |
